Simple enough on the surface, right – Oppo recently released a trio of Reno8 phones in China and now they are making their way to other markets. Misc: Fingerprint reader (under display, optical); NFC; stereo speakers. The Reno8 Pro (CPH2357) might not be the market introduction of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 we were originally hoping to get, but that doesn’t make it any less of an all-around excellent and interesting device. We are also eager to see just how well it’s matched with the 4,500 mAh battery since Oppo clearly prioritized the thin profile for the phone’s design.
Whether you personally find the rather polarizing camera island design appealing or not, the Reno8 Pro is unquestionably a “design-heavy” device with its thin profile, premium materials, build and finishes. Its 6.7-inch AMOLED display stands out in particular with features like 10-bit color, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ certification and impressive advertised maximum brightness values.
The rest of its cameras also seem good on paper, with a 50MP main snapper, 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro. You get a nice and thick USB Type-A to Type-C cable in the box, which you might want to hold on to since it is rated to handle the high 7.3A required for the fast charging to work.
Last but definitely not least, a thick transparent TPU case is inside the box, so you can slap it on the phone and start using it immediately.

Let’s start with the Pro and what makes is special, before moving on to the Reno8 and the shared features. The Oppo Reno8 Pro is powered by the customized Dimensity 8100-Max chipset, This 5nm chip has four Cortex-A78 cores, four A55 and a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU.
It has a fairly capable ISP, but image processing tasks are actually delegated to Oppo’s in-house MariSilicon X chip, which has 18 TOPS of number crunching power and works in 20-bit dynamic range.
It has 1,080 x 2,412px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support (plus the certifications for high-quality video streaming from Netflix and Amazon).
Both Reno8 phones have the same camera setups, at least as far as the hardware is concerned – the Pro model will have better processing thanks to that MariSilicon chip. The main camera on the back is based on the 50MP Sony IMX766, a 1/1.56” sensor (1.0µm pixels) behind an f/1.8 7P lens (23mm) with omni-directional PDAF, dual native ISO and 12-bit image output.
Another thing to note is that this selfie camera has autofocus and a fairly wide FoV of 90°. The Pro model has dual speakers and an X-axis linear motor for haptic feedback.
